The proposals include plans for a new community hall, shop and café to be built by Thakeham and handed over to St Catherine’s to be run by and for the financial benefit of the charity. One of the core principles of the scheme is to integrate this community hub with the new hospice facility at the heart of the development.
- The new community hall would be used by St Catherine’s for its work in education and research around palliative care, as well as being available for community use. The hall will be connected to the hospice by means of a covered walkway.
- The shop and café will help provide a social centre for the local community, social area for those visiting loved ones at the hospice, and generate further income for the charity.
